What to Wear to Your Brand Photoshoot
They say the first thing someone notices about you when you walk into a room is what you’re wearing. If that’s the case, then I know the same goes for our online presence - the first photo someone sees of you will mark their first impression of you. What do you want that impression to say? What message do you want to get across? Is it confidence, strong, bold, or something in-between?
Your brand image is incredibly important for this reason alone and branding photography is only one part to the solution - the other part is what you wear! Do you want to book a brand photoshoot but aren’t sure how to best portray yourself? Maybe you know what you want to portray but can’t quite make that connection between thought and paper. Here are my suggestions for developing your brand photoshoot wardrobe:
Stay true to YOU
If you’re wearing items of clothing that you would never wear on a typical day to meet your clients, perform your art or simply something that just doesn’t feel like “you” - then it’s not to be worn during your brand photoshoot. Your client won’t be seeing your authentic self, therefore, you won’t be properly showcasing your brand.
Have Variety
A brand photoshoot is meant to assist you in creating content you can use for months, maybe even a year or two. The key to keeping your content interesting instead of lackluster is to provide your audience with variety. While this can be done through location & backdrop, this can also be achieved through your wardrobe! If you wear your favorite dress in one portion of your brand photoshoot, switch it up and change into your favorite top, denim, and a fun shoe for the other portion. Your audience won’t even know you took these photos all in the span of a few hours and it’ll create endless content you can use in the year(s) to come.
Dress for Longevity
Remember that the goal is to use these photos over the course of a year or so and inevitably, seasons and trends change. Make sure you’re incorporating seasonal styling into your brand photoshoot wardrobe! My favorite go-to items to incorporate for a Fall branding shoot are as follows:
Felt or suede hat
Neutral colors to mix in with brand colors (Browns, creams, whites, etc.)
Boots
A classic pair of clean, non-distressed denim
Sweaters
A great jacket that can be taken on or off to provide a 2-in-1 outfit
And don’t forget to try and stick to classic or non-printed pieces when choosing your Fall photoshoot wardrobe - an occasional print or statement detail is fine but these tend to be the characteristics that don’t stand the test of time. When all else fails, revert to rule #1. Be yourself and everything else will fall into place!
